Hello! Standing Stone Butch dispatch 03 (May-June) here! Endless exciting things happening so I’ll start with a run-down of what’s coming up. For paid subscribers there will be a sneak peak of some writing I have coming out very soon in the inaugural Pony Press publication, some work-in-progress from the studio AND Big Big exclusive news of what I’m currently working on.

What’s coming up in Marfworld?

4th July , 6pm - Mezzanine Studios, Orion Business Estate, SE14 5RT

Pony Press OBJECT: (of affection)

Come on down to the launch of the inaugural publication, “OBJECT: (of affection)” featuring the work of 11 writers, addressing the tension of objects in relation to the self, the other, and the larger landscape of the queer experience. I have written a post/pre-gender butch-femme inter-epoch silica-core folktale of strap sucking and will be reading some (maybe all of it), at the event. You can buy a copy there or pre-order via the Pony Press insta. There’s also a show of prints to accompany the written work, which will be available to buy at the event.

The Queer Child Exhibition

I have some work in this group show of 20 FLINTA artists (+a queer choir!). Come to SET Woolwich to explore 'The Queer Child' - The concept of 'the Queer Child' and 'Growing Sideways' derived from Katheryn Bond Stockton's 20th century study on subliminal queerness in children. Stockton's work explains how a queer child grows in non-linear paths towards non-conventional futures. Would love to see you there!

DESPITE 2025 – Group Show

Another group show- I think the opening will be on the 12th July 6-9pm but TBC! Check the Despite.collective Instagram for all the details - “Come support the resilience of artists who create art, despite the conflicts that arise from pursuing creation under a system where they must support themselves under wage labour.” I am showing my work Days of The Week here.

2nd August for a very special, dykey, and delicious supper club, happening in South London in collaboration with artist and ceramicist Will Martin.

6th September – Open Studios at Conditions Croydon- come down and see me and my many works in progress and the work of the endless talented peers in our little Croydon home.

27th September – Queeriosities in Peckham, I will be there I think both selling my wares and showing some *NEW* work

October – something very special brewing in Brockley, I think we can all agree October is much too far away to imagine the details yet of work, life or anything else- the year is flying by!

What’s been and gone?

1. I was honoured to be invited up the Edinburgh this last month as part of the Queer Frontiers end of the archi-fringe there. There was an amazing collection of projects on show too at Custom Lane.

2. NTS Conditions show – I got pretty stuck into this group project at Conditions- our Siren Songs hour. Sirens, alarms, the whole show is a macro-alarm of sorts. I do some chatty bits in the show but heres a bit of info about my main contributions:

Butch Flight 01- I have died on hillier fields than this. At 31.15mins

This is a recording I made in collaboration with my friend @mort_drew who is a sound genius. We took a recording of the dawn chorus from the centre of the stone circle in hilly fields in south London and then sonified the recording through mudlarked lumps of flint from the thames foreshore with a transducer (transjuicer lol). It is an exploration about reappropriating the term “butch flight”, as instead an idea about soaring, and taking flight through transness, and about a queer sense of deep time- finding resonance in stones- their false appearance as static frozen objects.

In the recording you can hear a kind of incredible lithic grinding underneath the birdsong, that feels ancient and alive- that is the sound of the birdsong vibrating through the stones.

There’s also a track in there from one of our sound sessions. At 40.04mins Squatter’s Jig/ Pitter-Patter Alarm-Clock/ The Curse is Lifted

This track samples the sounds of a squirrel that was living in the attic above my flat for about 7 months. I didn’t want pest control to kill it so it has been a struggle- there was a period where the squirrel was my alarm clock, I had to wait for it to stop scampering around in order to get to sleep, and it would wake me up in similar fashion in the morning. I took a recording of its noises, and we sampled them at a conditions sound session- and this is 100% true: after 7 months of pretty much daily squirrel activity, I genuinely have not heard a sound from it after that night. It literally just wanted to be heard/ get on NTS.

3. Burn the Sheets at House of Annetta wrapped up very nicely - over 1000 visitors in three weeks. As part of the programming we hosted a workshop with Trans Kids Deserve Better on trans domesticity through a youth lens. The outcome of this is a lovely zine that will soon be available in physical nd digital formats.
